I'm sorry! Here is not a page of The MyNetroots.com.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
MyNetroots is an online meeting place for netroots activists. Who is a netroots activist? Well if you're here reading this then you are. In the past year we have seen unprecedented growth in the grassroots and netroots communities. We watched as the netroots community lifted Howard Dean to the top of the heap through small individual contributions.
In the past year we have learned how to use the internet as a tool. The mission of MyNetroots is to provide activists with a meeting place, a tool to share ideas and to plan rallies and protests. A place where we can find out if there is a progressive running halfway across the country that might need our help.
MyNetroots' goal is to take back our country from the corporate thieves that have manipulated and stolen the country that our parents, and our parents' parents, worked so hard to build.
Believe it or not all of this is possible with just one person. You.

Transplant Memories
April 23rd, 2005
It looks like getting other peoplefs memories and taking on their behaviors after an organ transplant might not be just the stuff of Hollywood legend.
gWhen they showed me pictures of their son, I knew him directly. I would have picked him out anywhere. Hefs in me. I know he is in me and he is in love with me. He was always my lover, maybe in another time somewhere. How could he know years before he died that he would die and give his heart to me? How would he know my name is Danny? And then, when they played me some of his music, I could finish the phrases of his songs. I could never play before, but after my transplant I began to love music. I felt it in my heart. My heart had to play it. I told my mom I wanted to take guitar lessons?the same instrument Paul [the donor] had played. His song is in me. I feel it a lot at night and itfs like Paul is serenading me.h

Yankees Vs. Red Sox
Does it get any better than this? The Yankees have a one game lead over the Boston Red Sox going into the last three games of the season, where they'll play three games against each other to decide the AL East Pennant.
Go Yankees!

More Abu Ghraib Photos to be Released
A federal judge ordered the release of 74 pictures and 3 videos that the pentagon has been trying trying to keep under wraps for fear of further embarrassment. I haven't seen them yet, but I've heard that many of these are worse than the ones we've already seen. Hard to imagine.

Republicans Replace DeLay with Big Tobacco Whore
By now I'm sure we've all heard that DeLay, at long last, is being indicted. Meet his replacement.
Sept. 11, 2003 - House Majority Whip Roy Blunt (Mo.), the No. 3 Republican in the House, has become engaged to tobacco lobbyist Abigail Perlman.
Their relationship became controversial in June, after The Washington Post reported that Blunt tried to slip language aiding Philip Morris into a homeland security bill last year.
This is the best they can do? DeLay is being indicted after over a year of being admonished by the House Ethics Committee, and the only replacement they can find is someone who go caught trying to slip in aide to Philip Morris into a homeland security bill? Was the next guy in line busy eating human flesh or something?

Your Racist Republicans
Bill Bennett is a republican who is a member of the PNAC. In 1981 Reagan appointed him to head the National Endowment for the Humanities (the largest funder of humanities programs in the United States). And then in 1985 appointed him as Secretary of Education. A good ol' fashioned republican you might say. Well let's take a look inside the mind of a good, god-fearing republican.
BENNETT: Well, I don't think it is either, I don't think it is either, because first of all, there is just too much that you don't know. But I do know that it's true that if you wanted to reduce crime, you could -- if that were your sole purpose, you could abort every black baby in this country, and your crime rate would go down. That would be an impossible, ridiculous, and morally reprehensible thing to do, but your crime rate would go down. So these far-out, these far-reaching, extensive extrapolations are, I think, tricky.
Wonder why the country is so fucked up? Because a guy who is even capable of uttering something this contemptuous was appointed by one of our Presidents to be the head of the National fucking Endowment for the Humanities!
I have an idea. What if we created a fair market society where the top CEO's aren't making 400% more than 80% of the working class citizens? Then the crime rate might go down. How about instead of allowing corporate thieves to steal the wealth the working class of this country created, we actually fairly distributed it. I bet the crime rate would go down then. So, by proxy, if we start aborting men born into rich white families, the crime rate would go down. I mean sure, it's a morally reprehensible thing to do, but if you want to see fairness and justice again in your lifetime, it will help.

Facts
These are undisputed facts. No arguing. No tinfoil hats. Facts. How did we allow this to happen in our country?
1. There is no federal agency with regulatory authority or oversight of the U.S. voting machine industry.
2. 80% of all votes in America are counted by only two companies: Diebold and ES&S.
3. The vice-president of Diebold and the president of ES&S are brothers.
4. The chairman and CEO of Diebold is a major Bush campaign organizer and donor who wrote in 2003 that he was "committed to helping Ohio deliver its electoral votes to the president next year."
5. Republican Senator Chuck Hagel used to be chairman of ES&S. He became Senator based on votes counted by ES&S machines.
6. Republican Senator Chuck Hagel, long-connected with the Bush family, was recently caught lying about his ownership of ES&S by the Senate Ethics Committee.
7. Senator Chuck Hagel was on a short list of George W. Bush's vice-presidential candidates.
8. ES&S is the largest voting machine manufacturer in the U.S. and counts almost 60% of all U.S. votes.
9. Diebold's new touch screen voting machines have no paper trail of any votes. In other words, there is no way to verify that the data coming out of the machine is the same as what was legitimately put in by voters.
10. Diebold also makes ATMs, checkout scanners, and ticket machines, all of which log each transaction and can generate a paper trail.
11. Diebold is based in Ohio.
12. Diebold employed 5 convicted felons as consultants and developers to help write the central compiler computer code that counted 50% of the votes in 30 states.
13. Jeff Dean was Senior Vice-President of Global Election Systems when it was bought by Diebold. Even though he had been convicted of 23 counts of felony theft in the first degree, Jeff Dean was retained as a consultant by Diebold and was largely responsible for programming the optical scanning software now used in most of the United States.
14. Diebold consultant Jeff Dean was convicted of planting back doors in his software and using a "high degree of sophistication" to evade detection over a period of 2 years.
15. None of the international election observers were allowed in the polls in Ohio.
16. California banned the use of Diebold machines because the security was so bad.
17. 30% of all U.S. votes are carried out on unverifiable touch screen voting machines with no paper trail.
18. All -- not some -- but all the voting machine errors detected and reported in Florida went in favor of Bush or Republican candidates.
19. The governor of the state of Florida, Jeb Bush, is the President's brother.
20. Serious voting anomalies in Florida -- again always favoring Bush -- have been mathematically demonstrated and experts are recommending further investigation.

Fuck Atrios, AmericaBlog, MyDD, Josh Marshall and Kos
All of them? Yeah, why not? Fuck them all. What language, why so much anger? Not so much anger, as resignation. Resignation to the fact that the same thing that brought me into the liberal blogosphere is what is increasingly pushing my interest farther and farther away. Already discouraged by the liberal megalomaniac blogging elite, I, along with everyone else catching the shit that runs down from the almighty bloggers, have to be subjected to posts like this from Chris Bowers. The same Chris Bowers who looks like he might actually be fearful of taking a beating from Ginny Schrader, either that or they're having a who looks better with a Flowbee haircut moment.
You see, it's not enough that the lib5 don't want to bother to blogroll anyone. I understand that, you can't blogroll everyone obviously, but they actually take the time out of their day to tell you, in public that they're not going to do it and why. Not only that, they're kind and generous enough to tell you that you're best just fucking off because you're not going to get a piece of what they have, so you might as well give up. Or take Chris' advice, try starting a blog about the corner where you live, or the amount of freckles on your arm. You know, something more specific. You're going to have to pick something specific and really stick to it. Then, maybe if it's something one of the elite takes an interest in, they might just link you. If you're lucky. And you better be grateful when it happens. You see, posting about whatever you want is fucking locked up. Atrios is the only one that can post on random issues and have people give a shit.
I took a look at Duncan's site today and here are a few facts. The main page shows the last four days. Of the last ffour days there have been 131 original lines posted by Atrios. 170 quoted lines. And of the 131 original lines, 11 of those were announcing an open thread and 20 of them were either one word or a short sentence introducing quoted text. Now I know, no one has their finger on the pulse of cutting and pasting like Duncan, but that doesn't mean they can't throw other people a bone once in a while. How does the wingnutosphere manage to have so many piss poor highly trafficked blogs? Because they actually fucking link more than other top four bloggers on the planet.
I've said it before, the elitist nature of the liberal blogosphere under represents the democratic core. The people. The working class. Who is really fucking paying attention to the 347th comment left on Eschaton on a link to an AP story? It's not a community, it's a circle jerk. It's a business for them. None of them want to drive traffic away from their sites because that's how they make their living. You're not going to get Atrios or Kos or John or Chris linking to 50 or 60 other liberal sites in a week, because they might lose some of their traffic. And don't tell me it's impossible. Each and every one of them has an RSS reader and if they wanted to it would be just as simple as it would be to link to each other three times a day. It's a fucking business, and they don't want you in on it. Period. End of fucking story. They don't care about the fight now. They don't care about the cause, they care about selling their blogads.
Look it's fine, don't fucking link me ever. There's a good chance I'm through with blogging anyway. But just don't fucking have the balls CHRIS BOWERS, to try and tell everyone how to be successful, by not doing what "is already taken". There's room for more, it's just that your little tight knit fraternity doesn't want to allow it to happen. So do me a favor Chris, and shut your fucking mouth and learn some humility about what you do.
You all have a virtually limitless stream of small time, no name, anonymous bloggers worshipping at your feet, posting some of the same cut and paste bullshit you post. So don't tell me that you don't have time to link to them or read them because two other people on the planet are already doing it. It's tired bullshit.
All my best,
James Poling

CNN Coverage of Rita
I'm watching the CNN in coverage of RIta. I know weatherman Chad Myers lost his cool during Katrina, I thought maybe it was a one time thing. But I'm pretty sure he's out of his fucking mind. The only reason to keep watching CNN's coverage of this storm is because it looks like Myers might snap at any moment.

Bianca, I Hardly Knew Ye
First Jeb's Imaginary Friend Chang, Now Bush's Imaginary Friend Named Bianca? Perhaps the rumors of Bush's hitting the bottle again aren't so greatly exaggerated. Bush at a press conference, desperately searching for someone named Bianca to talk to.
THE PRESIDENT: Bianca. Nobody named Bianca? Well, sorry Bianca's not here. I'll be glad to answer her question.
Q I'll follow up.
THE PRESIDENT: No, that's fine. (Laughter.) Thank you though, appreciate it. Just trying to spread around the joy of asking a question.
[snip]
Q Mr. President, could we talk more about --
THE PRESIDENT: Are you Bianca?
Q No, I'm not. Anita -- Fox News.
THE PRESIDENT: Okay.
Q Just a quick question --
THE PRESIDENT: Okay. I was looking for Bianca. I'm sorry.

Climate Loonies
Those hedonist Brits don't understand that Jesus controls the climate.
A leading British scientist said on Friday that the growing ferocity of hurricanes hitting the United States was very probably caused by global warming and criticized gclimate loonies in the States.h
Sir John Lawton, chairman of the Royal Commission on Environmental Pollution that advises the government, made what the Independent newspaper said was a thinly disguised attack on the stance of the Bush administration.
gThe increased intensity of these kinds of extreme storms is very likely to be due to global warming,h Lawton told the newspaper in an interview. gIf this makes the climate loonies in the States realize wefve got a problem, some good will come out of a truly awful situation.h

Seperation of Who and What?
Taking one more step to turn the U.S. into a theocracy the House today passed legislation to allow faith to play a role in hiring at Head Start pre-school programs.
The House voted Thursday to let Head Start centers consider religion when hiring workers, overshadowing its moves to strengthen the preschool program's academics and finances.
The Republican-led House approved a bill that lets churches and other faith-based preschool centers hire only people who share their religion, yet still receive federal tax dollars.
[...]
The House passed the bill 231-184; only 23 Democrats voted for it.
Here are the 23 Dems that voted it through. Let's try and remember them when it's time for re-election, in the mean time, feel free to send them an e-mail and let them know what you think about their unethical vote to further break down the barrier between church and state.

Rita
I used the National Hurricane Center's prediction map and did an overlay on Google Maps to give some perspective on exactly where Rita might make landfall. It looks like New Orleans is going to get missed by most of it. I'm sure the rain they're getting from it isn't good, but it seems like it could have been worse. Let's hope that something happens to weaken this storm before it makes landfall.

National Democrats Missing the Forest for the Trees?
The American Prospect has a good piece up about the NYC mayoral race. It's Bloomberg against Ferrer and everyone is pretty much expecting a landslide win for Bloomberg. AP asks why the national dems can't see the importance of having a Latino democrat win such an huge local election.
To be sure, Bloomberg has largely steered clear of Giulianifs -- and the national GOPfs -- race- and fear-based appeals to culturally conservative whites. Indeed, many Bloomberg backers argue, correctly, that hefs gone out of his way to offset Giuliani in that regard, adding that hefs made inroads among some Democratic voters simply by governing as a Democrat, and a highly effective one at that. Hefs made extensive overtures to minorities, has taken the racial sting out of police-community relations, and has refrained from using his pulpit for bullying, as Giuliani so often did, particularly in ways designed to exacerbate racial tensions. Bloombergfs also broken with the national party on several fronts, taking the gun industry to court and opposing George W. Bushfs Supreme Court nomination of John Roberts (though raising questions about Bushfs intentions for the high court would have been a heck of a lot more meaningful before Bush won re-election).
[...]
Finally, if the Dems continue to desert Ferrer, it will help Rove achieve another key strategic goal: winning Latinos to the GOP, a minority-outreach effort that he actually takes seriously. A victory for Ferrer, New Yorkfs first Hispanic nominee -- coming right after Antonio Villaraigosafs election as the mayor of Los Angeles -- would mean that Latinos had won city halls in major cities on both coasts. That would be deeply meaningful for Hispanics nationwide, reaffirming Democrats as the party truly interested in elevating them and making it tougher for them to bolt. National Dems seem blind to the potent symbolism that such a bicoastal victory would carry. But you can bet Rove isnft blind to it. After all, if national Democrats wonft support New Yorkfs first Latino nominee, why should Latinos support Democrats?
It's a really great article. I can see both sides of it in that I am one of the people that think Bloomberg is a better Mayor than Ferrer would be. But I also know that the dems, now more than ever need to prove to their base that they are behind them. Does that mean whole heartedly supporting a candidate just because he's a democrat, even if you believe that he isn't as capable as his republican opponent? I believe the answer is yes.
If the national dems jump in and throw all their weight behind Ferrer, I think it's a win-win situation. If Ferrer loses, you can still show your base that you were 100% behind him and did everything you could to get him elected. If he wins, you have a Latino democrat mayor of New York who won, in large part, because of the effort you put into getting him elected. Either way, you win.

Racism
There are a number of reasons to do away with the death penalty, this may be the most important one.
More condemned men and women are on California's death row for killing whites than for murdering people of any other race, despite there being more black and Hispanic murder victims, according to a new study.
The study, to be published in the Santa Clara Law Review, tallied the races of California homicide victims in the 1990s.
It concluded suspects who murdered whites were almost four times more likely to be sentenced to death than those who killed Hispanics, and three times more likely to be sentenced to death than those who killed blacks.
The study actually showed that the race of the suspect didn't play a part in seeking the death penalty, it was pretty much soley the race of the victim. Apparently, all men are created equal, unless you kill whitey, then your ass is three times more likely to be toast. If this isn't evidence that there needs to be a moratorium on the death penalty, then that says a lot about the sad state of unbalanced affairs in this country.

Cortisone
Earlier tonight I had a cortisone shot for the first time for a pulled muscle/pinched nerve, and I am sweating like a pig. I'm literally drenched in sweat. I couldn't figure out what was going on because it's actually a fairly cool night here. I finally googled "cortisone" and "sweating" and it seems that increased sweating is one of the side effects. They aren't joking.

Bush Nominates "Union Buster" as Secretary of Labor for OSHA
It's like ten thousand spoons when all you need is a knife...or something like that.
Just Google "Jackson Lewis" + "union busting" and you come up with 322 hits. Substitute "union busting" with the more polite phrase "union avoidance" and you get 304 hits.
This adminstration would have appointed a convicted arsonist to investigate the great Chicago fire.

Talk to a Real Life Human
Great little database that lists companies with IVR phone systems and tells you how to get past the automated voice to a real life human. Most of the time it's as simple as pressing "0" but a few of them seem to have little codes that you can use to get past the recording. Is there anything worse than pressing "0" to try to get to a human and have the recording start over from the beginning? It's like it's mocking you.
